"I got the tape," said Mark Chauncey, a foreman at Goodrum Builders Inc. He was embarking upon the initial steps of framing the dream home of a couple who moved to Northern California in 2015.

As he bent down to measure a critical distance to the 64th of an inch using a traditional measuring tape, the youngest member of his crew looked on. There are many things on a construction site that can't be learned in a classroom.
